How To Play

Before you learn how to play games with #CwExperts, you should familiarize yourself with most of the commands for CWEBot, found here: http://cwexperts.org/bot-commands/. It is important to know the purpose of these commands in order to learn how games are played.

You should also ensure that your highlights and other IRC settings are configured properly so that you do not miss any notifications. You can find our guides for all IRC clients here: http://cwexperts.org/how-to-irc/.

Introduction

The method that #CwExperts uses to play games is very uncommon. We take advantage of the ’10 minutes per game requirement to earn rewards’ that was put in place to stop players from joining games at the very end and boosting their game count extremely quickly. In order to play games as efficiently as possible, we always have more than one game active at a time, so that we can hop worlds and join the next game with the least amount of time left as possible.

Our games are always roughly 13 minutes, and this is done by hopping our alt accounts to a new world and starting a new game while the current game is at 10 minutes remaining. This results in about 13 gold tickets per hour, which is almost twice as fast as any other Castle Wars group.

The instructions for each of the main roles are described below in detail. Please take your time to learn about every role, even if you are a new member, so that when the time comes for you to take a more complicated role you will be able to get a grasp more easily. If you have any questions about any role, or if you wish to be guided through doing a specific role, feel free to ask a staff member.

The Absolute Basics

These are the most basic steps you must follow if you wish to join in on active games:

  1. Join the games channel #cwexperts1 on SwiftIRC and use .world to find the current world information
  2. Go to the current world – put your main in the Saradomin portal and your alt in the Zamorak portal
  3. Once you are in the portals, wait for the messages to join the game and join immediately
  4. As soon as your main joins the game on Saradomin, you must lobby to allow others to get in
  5. Remain lobbied on your main until the lead calls unlobby – always unlobby at 10 minutes remaining
  6. The lead will then notify you when to hop your alt to the next world – the game must first tick (5v5)
  7. Your alt must have joined the game on Zamorak before it hops worlds, otherwise it will not be placed in the Zamorak portal and instead outside in the Castle Wars lobby
  8. The new world will start 3 minutes after hopping your alt, and you must move your alt out of the Zamorak pen – use .pentoggle to be automatically notified of this
  9. Once the previous world ends, hop to the current world and put your main in the Saradomin portal

Continue to follow steps 3-9 every game and you will be successfully playing games with #CwExperts!

S/Zalting Guide

Once you have a grasp on the most basic role, you can begin performing the more advanced roles.

The role of salt, also know as zalt in the case that the winning team is Zamorak, involves putting your alt in the Saradomin portal rather than the Zamorak portal when you hop worlds. Two alts are required to be in the Saradomin portal to begin, and for the duration of, the 3 minute countdown that initiates the game – this is the responsibility of both the lead and the salt.

These are the steps you must follow if you are s/zalt:

  1. When the lead notifies you to hop your alt to the next world, put it in the Saradomin portal rather than the Zamorak portal
  2. Once the game has started, capture the Zamorak flag and score once
  3. Leave the game and attempt to enter the Zamorak portal – this allows more mains to enter the Saradomin portal when they hop to the current world
  4. If you are unable to enter the Zamorak portal on your alt, wait outside in the Castle Wars lobby by the bank, and try again when mains hop
  5. Once your alt is in the Zamorak portal, wait for the message to join the game
  6. If there are already 5 alts on the Zamorak team, you do not need to join on your alt as only 5 alts are required to tick the game

Leading Guide

The role of lead is similar to the role of salt, as you follow the same steps with your alt, however, you must pay more attention.

As lead, it is your responsibility to make important calls such as when to unlobby, and when to hop alts to the next world. You will make these calls with assistance of CWEBot on our SwiftIRC channels.

These are the steps you must follow if you are lead:

  1. Assuming your main is already on the Saradomin team, you must wait for the game to tick – this is able to happen every minute only if there are at least 5 accounts on each team
  2. Once the game ticks, and the timer is at 10 minutes or less, use .hopw WORLD_HERE to notify members to hop their alts to the next world of your choice – you may alternate between the same 2-3 worlds
  3. Put your alt in the Saradomin portal rather than the Zamorak portal
  4. Once the game has started, you can leave immediately, as the salt will be capturing the Zamorak flag
  5. Attempt to enter the Zamorak portal –  this allows more mains to enter the Saradomin portal when they hop to the current world
  6. If you are unable to enter the Zamorak portal on your alt, wait outside in the Castle Wars lobby by the bank, and try again when mains hop
  7. When mains hop to the current world, you must put your main in the Zamorak portal – this allows even more mains to enter the Saradomin portal and join the game more quickly
  8. Move your main between the Castle Wars lobby and the Zamorak portal until you see no mains left attempting to enter the Saradomin portal – your main will always be the last to enter the Saradomin portal
  9. When your main joins the Saradomin team, use .unlobby to notify members to unlobby their mains – you must make this call no later than 10 minutes remaining in the game
  10. Once your alt is in the Zamorak portal, wait for the message to join the game
  11. If there are already 5 alts on the Zamorak team, you do not need to join on your alt as only 5 alts are required to tick the game

Early Ticking Guide

Early ticking is a strategy in which the current world is ticked before mains hop to it. This increases the speed of games as you are able to complete the necessary step of ticking – which normally requires mains and an extra minute of waiting – while mains remain on the previous world.

In order to early tick a game, you must utilize alts, as mains will still be on the previous world during this time. This means that a minimum of 5 alts on each team is required to early tick. The lead may use .et to randomly select 3 additional members to perform the early tick role, also known as et1, et2, and et3 – these roles along with the lead and the salt will now be referred to as the early tick role.

These are the steps you must follow for early ticking if you are performing any early tick role:

  1. When the lead notifies members to hop their alts to the next world, all early tickers must put their alts in the Saradomin portal rather than the Zamorak portal
  2. All early tickers must remain on the Saradomin team for at least 1 minute to allow the game to tick – it is recommended that you leave the Saradomin pen as more than 1 minute may be required to early tick
  3. The lead must use .ticks when the game has successfully early ticked to notify all early tickers to leave the Saradomin team
  4. If the game does not tick, the lead must use .notick to notify all early tickers to keep their alts on the Saradomin team and await further instructions
  5. Once the game has ticked, all early tickers must attempt to put their alts in the Zamorak portal
  6. If you are unable to enter the Zamorak portal on your alt, wait outside in the Castle Wars lobby by the bank, and try again when mains hop

By early ticking every world you can potentially save up to 2 minutes every game – 1 minute for allowing alts to join the Zamorak team and 1 minute for allowing the game to tick.

It is also possible to hop alts to the next world at 11 minutes remaining in the game rather than 10 minutes when early ticking. This can be only be done every other game, as hopping this early will result in a shorter game, thus not allowing you to hop at 11 minutes for two consecutive games. This requires the lead to use a minimum of 3 different worlds. However, it is usually best to continue hopping to the next world no sooner than 10 minutes remaining in the game, to allow for any mistakes that may be made.
